TSC Cares: What Started as a Show of Support for One has Grown to Support Thousands

What started as a show of support for one of TSC's own has grown to support thousands.

Franklin, TN - For the third year in a row, the start of the soccer season for Tennessee Soccer Club also indicates the start of an exciting and important fundraising campaign within the entire club community.

Three years ago, TSC Executive Director Stuart Brown and his family received news that their son, Eoin, was diagnosed with leukemia. The club reacted immediately, distributing wristbands that read “EoinisaFighter” and proudly wearing them throughout the year.

“The TSC community has been wonderful in supporting our family and so many more who are in a similar place,” said TSC Executive Director Stuart Brown. “Each year our club has stepped up more and more and the impact has been very powerful.”

In 2017, the club wanted to increase awareness but also saw an opportunity to raise funds to fight pediatric cancer.  With that, the decision was made to sell shirts to the TSC community that could be worn throughout the year, but especially in September – Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. WeGotSoccer, TSC's exclusive athletic apparel provider, plays a huge role in this by donating a portion of the cost of the shirts, allowing for more money to go toward cancer research.

This fall marks the third consecutive year that TSC is selling shirts, and just as in previous years 100% of the proceeds will go to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in support of the fight to eliminate childhood cancer. Over the last two years, TSC has raised and donated over $16,000. This year over 1,000 shirts have already been sold across TSC Murfreesboro, TSC Nashville and TSC Williamson in support of this initiative.

Aside from the fundraising effort around selling t-shirts, TSC Cares has grown as the philanthropic layer of the TSC organization that makes a massive impact across the community each year. Great effort has gone into raising funds for cureHunter and Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, but it hasn’t stopped there. TSC Cares initiatives have helped collect presents for under privileged children through the Youth Villages’ Holiday Heroes program. The club works with The Make-A-Wish Foundation to support the hundreds of youth in Middle Tennessee who are still waiting to have their wish granted. Last year, alongside the American Red Cross, TSC hosted its first Blood Drive under the TSC Cares banner. Continued work is being done with Special Olympics TN in the development of their soccer program, which didn’t exist prior to TSC’s engagement.

“It is really incredible to see how TSC Cares has been able to generate so much positivity in the community over the last couple of years,” said TSC Director of Club Operations & Development Taylor Johnson. “To know that it started organically and grew into this coordinated club and community-wide initiative makes it that much more special. In our first year in this merged organization we know that the reach of TSC Cares will only continue to grow and positively impact the lives of more and more people.”

Throughout the month of September, you will see more gold from TSC with the TSC Cares shirts and also across all digital platforms to raise awareness for Childhood Cancer Awareness month. If you haven’t donated to receive a TSC Cares shirt this year but would like to, please contact Tennessee Soccer Club at info@tennesseesoccerclub.org.
